An activity in Entrepreneurship and branding was conducted as a part of 'Fashion marketing & management' course for 6th semester Fashion Design students by the School of Management. This course aimed to teach lessons in branding, merchandising, marketing, entrepreneurship, IPR etc and is an excellent example of inter-departmental collaboration. In this activity, each student assumed two roles: a Designer and a Business Associate (BA). As a designer, each student made 5 handmade products, mostly using sustainable material. Then they learnt the basics of branding, and worked on their logo, visiting cards, invoice and other elements of branding that they want to associate with their products. Each designer then picked a classmate who would act as his/herBusiness Associate (BA). The BA was supposed to price those products appropriately and sell these at a special exhibition organized on the campus itself. Through this, they learnt the basics of merchandising and marketing. The primary purpose of this activity was experiential learning, and application of the theories that they learn in the class. The learning of the students was proven when some of them were selected by the World Art Community to sell their products on their portal. World Art Community is an online art & craft marketplace where artists & designers showcase their work for direct purchase by clients. The curation process was based on criteria such as the product, its description, material used, approx size, price etc. All the participating students received constructive feedback from the e commerce site. Some were selected to add in to the site.
