Graduation Project

Project Title – SOHRA EXPERIENTIAL CENTRE FOR KHASI HERITAGE, SOHRA, MEGHALAYA

The Sohra Experiential Centre is a government-proposed cultural and tourism project located in Saitsohpen, Sohra, Meghalaya—an ecologically sensitive, high-rainfall hill region with strong indigenous cultural identity. Envisioned as a landmark destination celebrating Khasi heritage, the project integrates cultural exhibition spaces, an auditorium, experiential galleries, restaurants, retail amenities, and outdoor public realms such as amphitheatres and plazas. The project is currently in the tender and design development stage, supported by a detailed DPR, architectural drawings, and technical design basis reports, making it a live and feasible project suitable for architectural thesis exploration. The project site lies within a dramatic hill terrain, characterised by steep contours, heavy monsoon rainfall, seismic sensitivity (Zone V), and a strong relationship between built form and landscape. This context presents complex architectural challenges related to terrain negotiation, climatic responsiveness, structural stability, and public accessibility. The project’s programmatic ambition—to merge tourism, culture, and public engagement—requires architecture to operate beyond conventional building design and instead function as an experiential narrative embedded within the landscape.
