Graduation Project

Project Title – Garments of Light: Reconceiving Traditional Materials in a Post-Industrial Age for Lighting Design
Project Sponsor – North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council

This project investigates the potential of bamboo and rattan as sustainable materials in contemporary lighting design for interior spaces. Drawing from vernacular craft traditions and organic morphologies, the collection reinterprets artisanal techniques through a modern design lens. Emphasizing ecological responsibility, the project engages with material tactility, structural lightness, and ambient spatial experience. It seeks to articulate a dialogue between traditional knowledge systems and post-industrial aesthetics, positioning bamboo not merely as a material, but as a medium of cultural and environmental resonance.
